Started by my friend Sophie Blanchard and 20 of her fellow classmates at York High School in Maine. S.A.F.E.R. stands for Students Advocating for Firearm and Emergency Reform in response to the school shooting in Florida. They are calling for Congress to act on gun reform legislation. Their goal is not to strip people of their 2nd amendment but instead to strip people of the ability to senselessly take the lives of others.
Their group color is purple because in a time where events such as the ones that’ll have occurred over the past 12 months, society cannot be divided by our political ideology so they decided on purple as red and blue, the two colours of the US political parties make purple.
Looking at a larger scope, S.A.F.E.R would like other schools across the United States to start a S.A.F.E.R chapter in their school.
They will be having a walk out on Wednesday March 14th to show Congress that the future of society will be heard.
